Thy Will Be Done

Thy Will…

“Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” —Matthew 6:10

Those four words—Thy will be done—are easy to recite, and repeat over and over again. They hold and carry the weight of surrender. They require letting go of control, comfort, and our carefully crafted expectations. They are the power of a vulnerable person.

We often want God’s blessing more than His will. We long and pray for healing, reconciliation, provision, or restoration, on our terms, in our time. We live avoiding the suffering by the sins of other people and even our own suffering. Without the fire of suffering. God can use our pain and suffering to draw us closer to others suffering. The call to trust God’s will demands more than passive agreement. It calls for yielded hearts, especially when His will looks nothing like what we prayed for.

We are not alone in our suffering. God is a relational God. He sits with us in our pain, He points us in the direction to go. Pain moves us to accept support and healing.

There’s a pain that comes with surrendering to God’s will and will us some of the most precious things or people in our lives. Maybe someone you love walked away. Maybe the job fell through. Maybe the healing didn’t come the way you believed it would. In moments like that, the enemy sounds loud, “If God really cared, this wouldn’t have happened.” But faith isn’t proven by what we receive; it’s proven by what we release. And by connecting and listening to God’s soft whisper.

Jesus taught us how to pray, “Thy will be done” and He lived by example. In the garden of Gethsemane, He wept until His sweat became like drops of blood. He asked if there was another way. He questioned God and asked “Why have you forsaken me.” But in the end, He said, “Nevertheless, not My will, but Yours be done.” (Luke 22:42). That’s the power of vulnerability that shows up as weakness to many. That’s the strength of surrender—Jesus didn’t waste His pain. He used it to help others.

Sometimes God’s will feels like loss before it feels like life. His will is never cruel. It’s always anchored in His wisdom, His love, and His eternal view.

You may not see the full picture right now, but God does. His will may stretch you, break you, or even silence you, but it will never destroy you. He is too wise to be mistaken by evil and too loving to be unkind to those who love Him.

I dare to pray today, even in your confusion, heartbreak, or silence: “Thy will be done” as a declaration of surrender and action step.

Let those words anchor you in peace.

I’ve been through a lot of pain, and I remind my soul—“If it costs me something, but it births God’s purpose, it’s worth it.” Praise the Lord o my soul. Rejoice today and find strength in surrendering to ABBA. He sees you, He hugs you, He hears you. He knows how it hurts.

Let’s pray:

Lord, I confess I like to be in control. I like certainty and I like to feel secure. God I hear Your will calling me into surrender, even when is uncomfortable. Help me trust what I can’t see and yield to what You know is best for me and those I love. Lord help me to surrender to your will, even when it breaks my heart, and even when I don’t understand it. I choose to say: Thy will be done. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
